General Facility Spaces

General Guidelines
  • Users must be at least 18 years of age with no medical issues that would preclude safe participation.
  • In order to utilize MizzouRec facilities, you must have a current membership and a valid University of Missouri ID.
  • Pets, with the exception of service animals, are not allowed.
  • To avoid clutter and trip hazards, personal items & bags are not permitted at the Climbing Wall or in the Cardio Gallery, Jungle Gym, Jungle Annex, and the Pump Room.
  • MizzouRec is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please secure your belongings in the lockers provided throughout the facility.
  • Possession, use, purchase, or sale of drugs or alcohol within MizzouRec Facilities is prohibited.
  • Gambling within MizzouRec Facilities is prohibited.
  • Theft within MizzouRec Facilities is prohibited.
  • Streaking, mooning, or public urination within MizzouRec Facilities is prohibited.
  • Initiating a false fire alarm or refusal to follow evacuation policies within MizzouRec Facilities is prohibited.
  • Possession of any weapon as defined by the University of Missouri within MizzouRec Facilities is prohibited.
  • External speakers within MizzouRec Facilities is prohibited without prior approval.
  • Blocking doorways or emergency exits is prohibited.
  • No food is permitted in any of the workout spaces.
  • No gum chewing in the Student Recreation Complex at any time.
  • Shoes must be worn at all times. All shoes must have non-marking soles; no open-toed shoes.
  • Members may not enter into any for-profit business agreements that utilize MizzouRec Services facilities and equipment. Personal training or private instruction at any MizzouRec facility is restricted to those individuals who are specifically employed by MizzouRec for this purpose. No solicitation is allowed.
  • The use of any photographic device, including but not limited to: cameras, phones and wearable technology, is prohibited inside the Student Recreation Complex. Request for use can be made via our online Media Access Request form.
  • In accordance with the University’s Smoke and Tobacco-Free policy, the use of any tobacco products is prohibited in and around the recreation and fitness facilities. This includes but is not limited to e-cigs, vapes, or hookah.
  • Disorderly conduct, abuse of the facility, equipment, or staff and/or disregard for the Student Recreation Complex guidelines could result in immediate dismissal from the facility.
  • Additional sanctions may include: disciplinary action, reimbursement for damages, and/or potential suspension from the facilities and programs.
  • Members or guests asked to leave by the staff will not be refunded any paid charges.
  • MizzouRec staff reserves the right to implement any rules or guidelines that protect the health, safety and well-being of the facility and its users. Failure to adhere to any of the above guidelines could lead to a removal from MizzouRec Facilities. 
Jungle Gym Guidelines
  • To avoid clutter and trip hazards, bags are not permitted, and all personal items must be clear of walking spaces.
  • MizzouRec is not responsible for lost or stolen items please secure your belongings in the lockers provided.
  • Avoid sitting on weight machines or benches during resting periods. “Work-in” with others on all strength equipment to optimize the usage of this area.
  • Do not drop weights. This can cause injury to you or others and damage to equipment and the facility.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to use Jungle Gym.
  • Personal training or private instruction at any MizzouRec facility is restricted to those individuals who are specifically employed by MizzouRec for this purpose. No solicitation is allowed.
  • MizzouRec staff reserve the right to implement rules that protect the safety of the facility and users. Failure to adhere to the above guidelines could lead to a removal from MizzouRec Facilities. 
Pump Room Guidelines
  • To avoid clutter and trip hazards, bags are not permitted, and all personal items must be clear of walking spaces.
  • MizzouRec is not responsible for lost or stolen items please secure your belongings in the lockers provided.
  • Avoid sitting on weight machines, benches, or in squat racks during resting periods. “Work-in” with others on all strength equipment to optimize the usage of this area.
  • Disinfect each piece of equipment after use with wipes provided.
  • Do not drop weights. This can cause injury to you or others and damage to equipment and the facility.
  • Do not remove weights from this space.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to use Pump Room.
  • MizzouRec staff reserve the right to implement rules that protect the safety of the facility and users.
  • Please re-rack weights.
  • Personal training or private instruction at any MizzouRec facility is restricted to those individuals who are specifically employed by MizzouRec for this purpose. No solicitation is allowed.
  • MizzouRec staff reserve the right to implement rules that protect the safety of the facility and users. Failure to adhere to the above guidelines could lead to a removal from MizzouRec Facilities. 
Indoor Track Guidelines
  • Walkers use inside lanes. Runners use outside lanes.
  • Call out when passing another user.
  • For safety no weights are allowed on the Track.
  • Please disinfect mats after use with wipes provided and re-rack.
  • Please re-rack medicine balls and kettle bells.
  • MizzouRec staff reserve the right to implement rules that protect the safety of the facility and users. Failure to adhere to the above guidelines could lead to a removal from MizzouRec Facilities. 
Jungle Annex Guidelines
  • Must be at least 18 years old to use Jungle Gym Annex.
  • To avoid clutter and trip hazards, bags are not permitted, and all personal items must be clear of walking spaces.
  • Disinfect each piece of equipment after use with the wipes provided.
  • Use the weight posts attached to all plate-loaded equipment for racking and storage of weight plates. Do not lean weights against equipment or walls.
  • Do not remove weights from the jungle annex.
  • The use of chalk or any other lifting substance is prohibited in the jungle annex.
  • Avoid sitting on weight machines or benches during resting periods. “Work-in” with others on all strength equipment to optimize the usage of this area.
  • Olympic bars must remain on benches. Do not remove for other work outs.
  • Always notify staff if you notice any broken, damaged or unsafe equipment.
  • MizzouRec staff reserve the right to implement rules that protect the safety of the facility and users. Failure to adhere to the above guidelines could lead to a removal from MizzouRec Facilities.

Mizzou Aquatic Center

General

  • Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff has final authority on all matters in the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
  • In case of emergency, the Emergency Action Plan is activated by one long whistle blast from a Lifeguard. All patrons are required to exit the pool immediately, and follow instructions from Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff.
  • Patrons with contagious skin diseases, infections or open sores, or who have had diarrhea within the last two weeks are discouraged to use the pools for health concerns. Bandages are discouraged in pools.
  • Glass objects are strictly prohibited: This includes masks with glass faceplates.
  • Showers are encouraged before entering any body of water to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Use of any part of the Mizzou Aquatic Center is prohibited unless supervised by a lifeguard.
  • Proper swimming attire is required in all Mizzou Aquatic Center bodies of water unless prior approval of an exception has been granted. Proper swim attire is defined as clothing that is designed for use in the water; specific item examples are listed below for reference. In addition, all swim wear must not indecently expose parts of the body or be transparent. 
    • Items made of material that is designed for use in the water that are allowed:
      • Women’s one and two piece bathing suits
      • Men’s Jammers or Speedo
      • Board Shorts/Swim Trunks
      • Rash Guards
      • Religious swim wear (Ex. Burkini)
    • Items listed below are not allowed to be worn in the water at the aquatic facilities:
      • Athletic shorts and pants (Ex. Running, Basketball, Volleyball, Yoga etc.)
      • Undergarments (Ex. Sports Bras, Underwear, Compression Shorts, Boxers, Briefs, etc.)
      • Clothing with grommets (Ex. Denim, Khaki shorts or pants, etc.)
      • Cotton Shirts (Ex. T-Shirts, tank tops, etc.)
  • To maintain safety, the Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff may require patrons to demonstrate swimming ability
  • Only Coast Guard approved flotation devices are permitted. Lifejackets are available upon request.
  • Outside of emergency need, hanging onto lane lines is discouraged.
  • Nose blowing and spitting in the pool or gutters is prohibited
  • Voluntary hyperventilation prior to underwater swimming and underwater breath holding are dangerous activities and can lead to unconsciousness and death during dives. Swimmers are prohibited from engaging in hyperventilation prior to either practice
  • Water polo or other water games, which require the use of a ball, are not be permitted in any of the Mizzou Aquatic Center bodies of water without prior authorization from the Mizzou Aquatic Center staff
  • Tennis balls, footballs, hard balls, squirt guns, etc. are prohibited in the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
  • Running, horseplay or other dangerous activities are not permitted in any areas of the Mizzou Aquatic Center
  • Only MizzouRec TigerSwim lessons or other prior approved instructional lessons are permitted in the Mizzou Aquatic Center
  • Direct supervision and active engagement are required for minors in the Student Recreation Complex and Mizzou Aquatic Center
  • Blocking doorways and emergency exits is prohibited
  • Footwear is required outside of the pool decks, hallways and locker rooms
  • Failure to comply with Mizzou Aquatic Center required or prohibited guidelines may result in removal from the Mizzou Aquatic Center, suspension or termination of MizzouRec membership following repeated or egregious occurrences

50M Pool

  • Lane usage is permitted only during posted hours in designated lanes
  • Lap swimmers should swim in a counterclockwise, circular pattern to allow shared usage.
  • Starting blocks are for the sole use of approved groups under the supervision of a coach
  • No diving is permitted. All individuals must use a feet-first entry during Open Swim in the 50-meter pool
  • Swimming under the bulkhead is prohibited. Patrons are not permitted to walk across the bulkhead while it is centered in the pool

Diving Well

  • Lap swimming is permitted only during posted hours in designated lanes
  • Diving from the side is permitted in designated lap lane areas only or in other parts as determined safe by the Mizzou Aquatic Center staff
  • Tower and diving boards are for approved group/event use only

Tiger Grotto Pool, Dry Sauna & Steam Room

  • Diving is not permitted in Tiger Grotto Pool as injury may occur.
  • Exercise is not permitted in the Dry Sauna or Steam Room
  • Attire is required in the Dry Sauna & Steam Room and must not indecently expose parts of the body or be transparent.
    • Permitted attire
      • Proper swimwear
      • Lightweight/athletic attire that will not be damaged or cause an aroma under high temperatures.
      • Cotton t-shirt and athletic shorts.
      • Water shoes and flip-flop type shoes
      • Excessive or constrictive clothing are not recommended
    • Prohibited
        • Sweaters & Sauna suits
        • Street shoes
  • Sitting on a towel while in the sauna and steam room is recommended
  • Individuals with health problems, who are pregnant, or who are taking medication should consult their physician before using the dry sauna or Steam room
  • For safety, the use of the dry sauna or steam room should not occur immediately after strenuous exercise
  • Limiting use of the dry sauna and steam room to no more than 15 minutes is recommended
  • To prevent dehydration, it is recommended that members consume plenty of fluids before and after dry sauna and/or steam room use
  • Pouring water on or tending the sauna rocks is prohibited, dangerous and damaging as these are electric units.

Truman's Pond

  • Diving is not permitted in Truman’s Pond as injury may occur.
  • Food is not permitted in Truman’s Pond
  • Only water in sealed containers are permitted. Soda cans, paper, plastic, glass, or styrofoam cups are not permitted
  • Outside of an emergency or approved situation, Emergency exits are not permitted for entering or exiting Truman’s Pond by patrons.

Hot Tubs

  • Use of the Hot Tubs are only permitted for those 18 years of age and older
  • For safety, use of the Hot Tub for more than 15 minutes is not recommended
  • Submerging your head in a Hot Tub is not recommended due to the extreme water temperature
  • Individuals with health problems, who are pregnant, or who are taking medication should consult their physician before using the Hot Tub
  • For safety, the use of a Hot Tub should not occur immediately after strenuous exercise

Outdoor Spaces

Stankowski Outdoor Complex

Stankowski Outdoor Complex was built with student fee dollars and is maintained by fees paid annually by MU students, MizzouRec members & guests. Requests for use of the complex by non-members for activities and events should be directed to MizzouRec at 573-884-5600.

The Stankowski Outdoor Complex turf and track surfaces are proprietary, requiring maintenance according to the manufacturer’s specific instructions. Do not attempt to perform any maintenance including the removal of snow or ice. Attempts to clean or restore the surfaces may cause irreparable harm at great expense to those causing the damage. Report all maintenance issues to MizzouRec at 573-884-5600.

Prohibited equipment, activities and items include:

  • Metal spikes
  • Tobacco & alcohol products of any kind
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Gum & gum chewing
  • All other foods
  • No Animals
  • Glass bottles or glass containers of any type
  • Roller blades, cycles of any kind, skateboards, and strollers
  • Folding chairs, canopies, tables
  • Fence climbing & activities that can damage the fences
  • Hanging or attaching equipment to the fences
  • Sports & activities which require batting or throwing hard equipment. Examples: softball, baseball, cricket, lacrosse, golf, and stickball
  • Any potentially damaging objects or activities without prior approval

Mizzou Tennis Center

  • Eligible students who are currently recognized as having successfully paid the MU student recreation fee will be permitted to reserve and use open courts provided they are able to present a valid student identification card. Students who are unable to do so will be restricted from facility use.
  • Student reservations are restricted to the outdoor courts only.
  • The maximum time allotment for each court reservation shall be limited to one and one half hours.
  • Courts can be reserved up to one week prior to play.
  • All walk-on patrons must register with the MTC reception desk.
  • Walk-on patrons will be able to obtain a court for immediate play, provided the availability of open court space.
  • Mizzou student patrons (MTC non-members) are not permitted to bring guests.
