Brewer Fieldhouse is dedicated to MU Athletic Director, Chester L. Brewer, before 4,500 fans at the basketball game against the Kansas Jayhawks. For over 45 years, Brewer Fieldhouse was not only home to Tiger Athletics, but was also the social center of campus.

Interesting fact: Brewer Fieldhouse has hosted concerts, graduations, and political addresses. In fact, Elton John once performed in Brewer Fieldhouse. The Fieldhouse’s main purpose was to service college athletics and large special events. Initially, the fieldhouse contained a dirt floor that was surrounded by bleachers and a wooden running track. This set up made accommodating basketball (a special floor was brought in and placed over the dirt floor), track, and special events possible. It was not until 1975 that the dirt floor was replaced with a synthetic surface. In fact, the synthetic floor would eventually be replaced with a sport turf in the 1987.
