Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of facility users by preventing and responding to emergencies. Must have the ability to work non-traditional hours such as late nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays. This position requires good decision-making skills and the ability to work with little supervision. Individuals must be assertively friendly and have an extensive working knowledge about facilities and services. This individual must remain American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certified during course of position.

Duties Include (but not limited to):

  • Ensure the safety of those in and around pool operations. Be prepared to act quickly to potential hazards, especially in time of emergency. Maintain knowledge and consistently enforce the rules and regulations of the Mizzou Aquatic Center. Complete an incident/accident report for all incidents using established guidelines.
  • Immediately communicate unsafe, broken or dysfunctional equipment to appropriate staff. Aid in preventative maintenance and cleaning of the Aquatic Center.
  • Maintain needed certification(s) to perform all necessary skills in accordance with American Red Cross Lifeguarding and MizzouRec standards.

Tiger Swim Lesson Instructor Currently Hiring View Description

TigerSwim Lesson Instructors plan and teach the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program for swim lesson participants age’s 6months- adult. Instructors provide leadership and guidance of skills during class through attentiveness to each participant’s swimming and learning needs. TigerSwim Instructors must effectively and safely instruct group and private swim lessons for all age and skill levels. Previous swim instructor experience highly recommended.  Candidates must have strong communication and decision-making skills, a knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification is recommended but not required.

DUTIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

  • Greet and communicate with all members and guests participating in the Tiger Swim Program associated with their assigned level.
  • Instruct classes based on the American Red Cross curriculum in the MizzouRec Aquatic Center.
  • The instructor must be able to teach all levels of swim strokes required by the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program.
  • Instructors should feel comfortable teaching individuals ranging from 6 moths to adult in an indoor pool at varying depths.
  • Be able to demonstrate swim strokes in the water as well as on land.
  • Ensure participant safety by enforcing and communicating all Aquatic Center policies and procedures.
  • Be able to quickly and effectively respond to the Aquatic Center Emergency Action plan when activated, and assist Aquatic staff as needed, while ensuring safety of the participants.
  • Maintain provided equipment in good working condition, report any issues to the Aquatics Programming Coordinator.
  • Be readily available to instruct private lessons as assigned by the Aquatic Coordinator for Programming.

Aquatic Lead View Description

The Aquatic Lead’s primary responsibility is to help maintain safety, order, cleanliness, and organization within the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The individual must demonstrate initiative to problem solve and the desire to work as a team. They must also possess leadership skills and have good communication skills with members, co-workers, and supervisors. 

Duties Include (but not limited to):

  • Ensure member and guest safety by enforcing and communicating all Aquatic Center, MizzouRec, and University policies and procedures.
  • Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies by implementing the Emergency Action Plan for the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
  • Answer questions by providing accurate information regarding the Mizzou Aquatic Center, such as pool hours and available space.
  • Responsible for quality customer service through addressing and resolving member and guest requests and concerns.
  • Responsible for building security during assigned opening and closing shifts which include, but are not limited to opening/closing facility on-time, checking water chemical levels, facility cleanliness, radios operational, ensuring pool vacuum is used and properly stored.
  • Responsible for assisting with the chemical operation of the Aquatic Center and notifying the Aquatic Coordinator when supplies are limited, or water chemistry readings vary from the prescribed levels.
  • Inspect facility daily and report any unsafe conditions and equipment to Aquatic Coordinator or Facility Coordinator.
  • Document all accidents and incidents reports and communicate to the Aquatic Coordinator and Facility Coordinator on Duty.
  • Ensure acceptable staff coverage for all assigned shifts by helping lifeguards with the rotation as well as assigning lifeguards cleaning duties.
  • Responsible for completing Lifeguard Stand and Skill Audits and providing input for Lifeguard JPA’s.
  • Maintain an accurate Communication Log during scheduled shifts to inform other Aquatic Leads and Aquatic Staff of updates.
  • Attend bi-weekly scheduled Aquatic Lead meetings and in-services.
  • Assist facility and programming staff as needed.

Aquatic Event Lead View Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Become familiar and competent with all facilities, equipment and storage areas Monitor and ensure the safety of all user groups utilizing MizzouRec facilities as well as MizzouRec members throughout Sports & Competition events

Facility Frontline View Description

Facility Frontline staff are responsible for maintaining access control for the MU Student Recreation Complex. Individuals in this position will be the first contact with all members and guest who enter the facility, and persons in these positions must be friendly and welcoming to everyone. Frontline staff provide service to our members at our equipment issue station, assist with our commercial laundry service for the facility, assist members in our activity spaces, and provide emergency aid when needed.

Duties Include (but not limited to)

  • Provide friendly member and guest services at East and West entrances. Ensure each guest is appropriately greeted and checks in through the facility management software, while monitoring facility capacity. Maintain up to date knowledge of all policies, procedures, and events held within the facilities to ensure the safety of all guest and employees. Assists guests with facility direction, instruction, information, or any other issues that may arise.
  • Monitor activity spaces and equipment use for capacity levels, take area specific counts, clean, sanitize, and disinfect all/strength/cardio equipment units. Perform additional cleaning throughout the facility to maintain a clean and safe environment. Participate in department training that emphasize proper implementation of health, safety, and environment management systems. Maintain a clean environment for members in General/Rothwell Locker Rooms, by stocking product and towels. Perform additional locker room cleaning to provide a safe environment.
  • Utilize facility management software to check out member equipment and staff uniforms. Ensure all lost and found items are collected and disposed of using outlined procedures. Ensure laundry services are maintained by laundering and folding towels, sheets, uniforms, etc. As needed, assist with package shipping and receiving through Loading Dock Entrance.

A MizzouRec personal trainer is responsible for designing individualized exercise programs for clients, as well as leading them through the program safely and effectively. They will coach, inspire and motivate clients to reach mutually established goals; perform fitness assessments and evaluations; deliver a positive fitness experience for members and clients; and develop training sessions based on clients’ history and future goals. Additionally, they will be required to participate in leading boot camps as necessary. To appropriately perform job duties, individual must possess excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills. It is required to have knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, program-design, periodization, and exercise equipment. 

Completion of the MizzouRec Personal Trainer Prep Course or national certification is preferred to apply. Must obtain and maintain national certification as well as CPR/AED certified during the course of the position.

Duties Include (but not limited to)

  • Schedule and perform Personal Fitness Assessments with potential clients to determine their fitness level, health conditions, personal goals, abilities, etc. Based on client’s goals develop a personalized training programs adhering to basic scientific principles. Review program with client, explaining in detail exercises, providing alternatives, if needed. Provide education on safe and proper use of fitness equipment. Monitor clients progress towards goals and adjust program as needed. Maintain accurate client records.

Lifeworks instructors are responsible for designing varying courses for instruction to adult learners with varying educational levels, abilities, and backgrounds. An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify an applicant to teach Lifeworks Dance classes.

TigerX Group Fitness Instructor View Description

The TigerX Instructor provides group fitness instruction in the TigerX program at MizzouRec. Instructors are responsible for leading a variety of group fitness classes, planning/leading classes, developing exercise routines, monitoring participants’ exercise form, and motivating participants in the TigerX program. Completion of MizzouRec Instructor Training Course expected or national certification preferred.

This position requires exceptional leadership and communication skills. Prior experience in sport officiating is preferred. Skills in risk management and facility security are also required.  This individual must be capable of maintaining integrity and fairness in each sport officiated. They must be eager to learn and grow in areas of inter-personal communication as well as conflict resolution. This individual must remain Adult CPR/AED, Child/Infant CPR, & First Aid certified during course of position.

DUTIES INCLUDE (but not limited to)

  • Ensure participants are checked in with proper identification and rosters are up to date
  • Have extensive knowledge of sport rules and proper enforcement of rules and policies
  • Use proper mechanics and signals to maintain a high level of communication with participants and coworkers
  • Assist in physical facility maintenance, equipment set up and takedown, and training sessions for Intramural leagues and tournaments.
  • Meticulously maintain score sheets for accuracy and record keeping
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to medical emergencies and participant incidents for events, or as needed within MizzouRec and all Intramural activities
  • Strong knowledge of all facilities, equipment, and storage areas
  • Monitor and ensure the safety of all user groups utilizing MizzouRec facilities as well as MizzouRec members throughout the Intramural league and tournaments.
  • At the conclusion of event, all equipment is to be returned to original places, and facility spaces should be in working order for daily use
  • Report any and all accidents, injuries, and incidents to Intramural Lead to ensure proper records
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings
  • Adhere to all University, MizzouRec, Team Mizzou, and area specific guidelines
  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve the customer and maintain the MizzouRec mission.

Intramural Office Staff View Description

The Intramural Office Staff member will be responsible for demonstrating leadership within the Intramural program as represented through their ability to provide exceptional customer service to all participants and employees; routinely provides suggestions and implementation plan of action that would result in program improvement. Must be reliable and have schedule availability to allow for at least 9 hours per week for assisting with program activities. First Aid/CPR certification preferred. Intramural Office Staff work evenings, nights and Sundays. Some weekend hours will be required.

Member & Guest Services Frontline View Description

Member & Guest Service Frontline staff are responsible for providing customer service to members and guests in the areas of, but not limited to, answering questions regarding membership, member and guest policies and services, fitness and wellness programming, and other programs offered by MizzouRec Services & Facilities; assisting with locker rental and locker room access control issues, providing/assisting with tours, and miscellaneous office tasks such as answering the phone and filing. 

DUTIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

  • Communication and engagement with members and guests providing information about MizzouRec membership and services.
  • Process POS actions related to programs and services offered at MizzouRec, including, but not limited to facility memberships, guest passes, locker rentals, Personal Training sales, and fitness programming sales.
  • Adherence to all sales handing procedures as prescribed by Area Manager and the fiscal office.
  • Conduct tours of MizzouRec during shift.
  • Strong knowledge of all facilities, programs and services.
  • Maintain equipment in good working condition, report any maintenance issues and restock supplies as needed.

Membership Auditor View Description

A membership auditor is responsible for the review of all new and renewal membership applications for accuracy. They will conduct semester audit of all accounts and make corrections and updates as appropriate. The auditor will also provide weekly updates on staff performance with respect to the accuracy of their renewals and new applications processed. Additionally, they may be tasked with office support such as filing, phone support and the conversion of all paper membership files to a digital filing system. Applicants must be able to work independently with strong attention to detail, 6-10 hours per week. Preferred applications will have experience with auditing or related skills. Additionally, applicants from the Trulaske School of Business are preferred.

Official Scorekeeper View Description

The official scorekeeper is responsible for keeping accurate records of the basketball game such as scoring, time-outs, fouls, jump balls technical fouls, etc.

Official Timer and Shot Clock Operator View Description

The official timer and shot clock operator is responsible for operating the game clock and the shot clock. The official timer is responsible for keeping the official time and posting the correct score on the scoreboard. The shot clock operator is responsible for the running of the shot clock. Both positions need to be at the scorer’s table a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the start of the game. Both positions duties are over when the game is officially over.

Statistician View Description

On game days, the Statistician will serve as lead event staff: expected to arrive 1.5 hours prior to game time, required to dress appropriately for the game(s), and will help with the setup of the facility. This includes team benches, the scorer’s table, and spectator seating. Staff is expected to set up their own functional area. The setup of functional areas should be completed thirty minutes to tip-off. After the game, the Statistician is responsible for teardown of his or her functional area and securing the equipment they use. For away games, staff will assist in loading and unloading the equipment, wheelchairs, and luggage onto the bus. Student staff members are expected to work events and demonstrations as needed.

Videographer and Marketing View Description

The videographer/marketing person is responsible for; the update and preparation of the Media Guide; scheduling the photo shoot for the schedule materials; distribution of the schedules to local businesses; promotion of the team’s games to the local media; reporting the game results to the local media; videotaping all of the team’s games; making copies of the games; promoting team achievements, events and news via social media; the team newsletter; updating the team web page; working with the program’s booster club; will assist with the set up and take-down of the facility before and after games and other duties as assigned.
